3rd grade Pablo Picasso Self Portraits

Oh my goodness y'all these are the cutest things I have ever seen!
First I asked the question "What would a portrait of you done by Picasso look like?" and that is all I had on the screen when they walked into class. We discussed as a class what we needed to know in order to fully answer this question. they sounded brilliant...."we need to know who is Picasso"..."We need to know his way of making art"..." we need to know his style"..."we need to know what a portrait is"etc...Then we dissected some of his paintings, discussed Cubism, made them think of one adjective to describe his work, we went deep into his world. then they were to create a small sketch of how they would look if Picasso drew them. Next they got a piece of 12 x 18 thin cardboard folded in half. On one half they drew their head shape and their hair outline. On the other half they drew all of their facial features and any extras such as jewelry, hats, bows,etc... They could choose any art material or materials they wanted. When their pieces were all colored they carefully cut out all of their pieces and assembled them in a "Wonderfully Wacky Way". Some of their parts were sticking out from the background with a piece of cardboard in between their pieces and some were glued directly onto the background still giving them a bit of dimension. I absolutely love how quirky they turned out and could not wait to share!Enjoy!
