Kinders Castles and GLITTER!

Oh my!!!!!!! It has been a minute since I have updated...whew it has been a whirlwind but a fun ride. Christmas break is over tomorrow (insert saddest face ever here), so I decided I had better do it now before the world sweeps me off of my feet with the glorious, never ending to-do lists.
I really only have one post to update because the last "Dot" post literally took all the way until Thanksgiving for all grade levels to complete :(
So my Kinders, I love them truly and their enthusiasm is amazing! We first read Roberto the Insect Architect and discussed how someone back in ancient times (1986, LOL) planned out on giant paper the very school building we are in everyday, and that they too could have a job designing buildings in their future. This got them excited BUT then I unveiled what they would be designing.......drum roll...fairy tale castles. Oh my goodness they squealed! Out loud in very tiny high pitched voices and then with every addition that I said like: and with prince and princess...another squeal...dragons and knights...another and so on. My job to get their interest peeked was done, next I showed them a plethora of visuals, from actual photos to computer renditions of castles from the past and present. We are actually fortunate enough to live near a castle that was recently built and houses our annual Renaissance Festival, so the kiddos have actually seen one in person (which we all know personal connections are worth a million bucks). You can find out more about it here.

Pretty cool ..huh?!?!?
Next is the planning day, so armed with just pencils, papers, erasers, and their imaginations we draw!!!

This little prince added tons of details and filled his entire paper way to go young architect!!!!

Next class we reviewed, we looked at more images of castles and then they were asked to add more details in pencil for about 5-10 more minutes and then I brought out the GLITTER markers, colored pencils, crayons, etc.. When each kiddo opened up a color and used it, the squeals returned so cute!!!!

On day 3 we reviewed one last time and added color with the dry glitter media and then I brought out the metallic watercolors and again...you guessed it squeals!!! And if they finished a little early they were also given paper crowns to wear and decorate when they left class for the day. So for an exciting squeal filled lesson you ought to give fairy tale glitter castles a try!
