3rd Graders Music Collage
I love music I think it inspires many artists and one of the most famous artists being Romare Bearden and his Jazz series. So I put my thinking cap on and my research fingers to typing and this is what I came up with. 1. An old clip from Fantasia that pairs music and lines PERFECTLY! Did I say say perfectly well I meant it! It shows the students how art and music can be simultaneous. Watch and see:
What did I tell you?!?!?!?!? So after we watch,laugh, and talk about the Fantasia video then we talk about music instruments. I am very, very lucky at my school they can take Strings in 4th grade, so 3rd I thought was perfect to get them thinking about the instruments available to them.
2. We then visit: http://www.sfskids.org/perform/
Here we go to the "Instrument Garden" and listen to a variety of instruments and hopefully they are already visualizing the sounds as art!
3. Finally we create a collage with an instrument and sounds, similar to the Art of Ed lesson link below. My kiddos are working on these this week so when they are finished I will post some pics.
